Irish Gaelic novelist, storyteller, poet, and journalist. A doctoral graduate of Cornell University, New York, he has worked as a biological researcher and university lecturer in the Netherlands, USA and Ireland.
He was editor of the Irish language newspaper Anois and for many years was editor of the literary and current affairs magazine Comhar. His collection of short stories Cinn Lae Seangáin (“The Diary of an Ant”) won the award for the best short story collection in the Oireachtas 2005 competition, while in the following year his novel An Tionscadal (“The Project”) won the main Oireachtas literary award. His short story Music in the Bone was selected by The Dalkey Archive Press for inclusion in Best European Fiction 2013. He has lived and worked in Catalonia since 1998.
